Contacts to Use or Abuse

This page will soon be loaded with links to sources that may help you.

It will also be loaded with suggestions about whom to contact.

It will also be loaded with suggestions of people to yell at, even though it won't do any good. At least you might feel better afterward.

Here's a start. I'll add more sources and contacts soon.

Contact Information for your U.S. Senator:

Write your Senators about your dilemma if you're having trouble getting a loan modification. They need to know about this. I am fortunate to have Senator Carl Levin representing me in the Senate. He responded promptly to my letter, and his office staff were also very helpful. My other Michigan Senator, Debbie Stabenow, didn't respond at all to my letter. So be sure to write both your senators, and your U.S. Congress Representative as well.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau:

I knew nothing of this government office until Senator Levin's staffers told me about the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The bank certainly won't tell you about it. If you feel like your loan service provider is giving you the runaround, file a complaint at this link below. It will definitely get their attention.

After filing a complaint, I was bumped up to the Executive Response Unit at CitiMortgage. They are supposed to make things go faster. They definitely demanded that I submit paperwork to them faster than before. It's a one-way speed trap. They wanted me to get my paperwork to them in 2 days or they would close my case. I would comply, then they took their sweet time reviewing it.

Even so, it's better than a sharp stick in the eye, so I recommend filing a complaint at CFPB if you're not getting anywhere with your loan mod.

Here's an interesting blog written by a California lawyer who appears to know his stuff. If you can get past the fact that his phone number is plastered all over the blog, it's worth reading. Loan Modification Lawyer Blog

Who really owns your mortgage note?

You can easily find out if Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae hold your mortgage at these two websites:

However, the information you find not be correct. Freddie or Fannie may very well have sold your mortgage, bundled with a bunch of other mortgages, to an investor. Probably someone in Asia or the United Arab Emirates. If that's the case, good luck in negotiating a loan modification. That owner of your mortgage couldn't care less about loan modifications or you keeping your house. They regard it as strictly an investment and will foreclose if they think that's the most profitable course of action.

You can learn more about it here
